ninjas and nano

So NaNoWriMo's coming up. Surprised? Caught you unawares, have I? Surely not! Although, if you're sort of clueless, like I am most of the time, maybe it has snuck up on you. Last year was the first time I actually really participated from start to finish. Every year prior to that, I was like, "Huh? What is this Na-No of which you speak?"

But here's the deal: National Novel Writing Month is wicked awesome. It's the whole reason the dojo exists or #ninjachat or #ninowrimo. Because I want national novel month to be every month, all year long. For realz!

I love writing a novel with super fast break-neck speed. Your head stays in the story, your characters are always talking to you, and the second you sit down to write, the words FLY. No reading back through the story to remind yourself where you are. No meditating or doing little character convos to get familiar with them again. You sit, and your characters TALK. It's unbelievably cool.

Obviously, then, I am doing NaNo. How could I not? It's like the sensei to Ninja Novel Writing Month, I owe it the honor of participating. :) I am a tiny bit terrified--November is a wicked busy month for me. I've got blog tours and interviews and guests posts and oh yeah--a BOOK COMING OUT!!!! I've also got a writers retreat (I'm kind of on the fence as to how much writing I'll actually get done there, lol!), a karate tournament, a weekend away with a friend and oh yeah--Thanksgiving.

But I laugh in the face of these roadblocks to words. I welcome the challenge they present me! Bring. It. On.

So. Will you be NaNo-ing this year? If you are, be sure to add me "alicross" to your friend list. Let's do what ninjas do best--cheer each other on to greater and greater skill and accomplishment. We are ninjas. We can do this!

Be sure to grab this fun NaNo calendar ninja Amy McBay made for us!

P.S. Please come follow (if you don't already) the Dark C.A.R.M.A. blog and enter to win *awesome* prizes! I've got TEN signed books up for grabs!

Last year was my first year too, and I had a similar euphoric experience, so f****** BRING IT! Great calander, gotta get me one of those!

I, too, lost my NaNo-Ginity last year...so I'm thinking that with a little more experience under my belt, this year might even get me to infinity and beyond! Whoo!
Ready to paint my face blue and ride into battle!

You know, I'm going to be honest. I'm not nearly as busy as you, but with my 4 month old, two other kids, and everything else I've got going on, I'm not sure I'm up for it this year. Maybe though.... Just maybe....

Yay for NaNo! It'll be my third year participating. Now if they'd just fix the buddy list thing so I can add people.

I love Nano! I won the previous 6 times I've tried.

A week ago, in the car, I mentioned to hubby nonchalantly that I can't wait for November. His jaw dropped and he hung his head. lol

I participated the year before last. I loved it. I'm thinking of doing it again, even though I'm not that prepared. I mean, if I don't make it, what's going to happen, my hands fall off and I can write anymore after November 30? If I do make it--great. If I sort of make it, I've got that much more done that I wouldn't have otherwise.

I was still kind of hesitant to do NaNoWriMo, but I think you sold me. Your life is way busier than mine, which is great! ANd if you can do NaNoWriMo, well...I think that I can too!

Can I work on a current WIP or does it have to be brand new?

I love that calendar. I just decided that I need to do Nano as well, because I need some motivation.

Yep. I'm doing it, but unofficially... meaning I'm not signing up. But I'll be pounding out a new story come November... yikes that's like in 6 days!!! :)

NaNo never lines up for me, which is awful. It sounds like so much fun! But I've got to revise this month. Good luck with your new idea!

Good luck with NaNo! Maybe I'll jump on board next year. :)

"I laugh in the face of these roadblocks to words"

I love this. I let the roadblocks get in my way last year. Not this year!

I'm so taking the calendar. Thanks.

Oh goodness, I REALLY REALLY want to do it, but I am dying right now! I don't know if I'd survive! November is also usually a busy busy month for me (birthdays, Thanksgiving!), which is why I did Camp NaNoWriMo in the summer. That was fun but it's another reason I'm questioning the sanity of doing it again in November when Real Life is already smothering me with its overbearing presence.

Ahem. So yes, still on the fence even though OMG November is like SOON. Good luck to you tho! I will definitely add you if I sign up!

I participated last year, but with no clear idea for another book, I won't do it this year...

Last year was my first for NaNoWriMo, too. :) I'm doing it for 2011 as well--I'm really looking forward to it since I know what to expect this time.

And I am totally snagging that calendar!

I'm definitely doing it this year. I'm eager for November to roll around since I know exactly what I want to write.

Last year I wound up revising an existing ms instead of writing a new one, but this year, I'm in! I'm with you on writing fast--best way to do it! :D

Okay, maybe I'm a little bit clueless (No maybe about it), but how do I add you because mine says that writing buddies is "coming soon".
