Why Save the Cat is the Perfect Tool for Writers

I think it’s time I start teaching you some things, eh? So of course I want to start with Save the Cat!

Save the Cat! (STC) comes from Blake Snyder’s book Save the Cat! The Last Book on Screenwriting You’ll Ever Need. Since then, Jessica Brody has adapted the original book into an STC! Writes a Novel—but authors have been using Blake’s method for decades and can attest that STC works just as well for novels as for screenplays!

Personally, I’ve written over fifteen books using the STC method. Many have been award-winners, Amazon bestsellers and even one USA Today bestseller. STC makes it possible for me to write more quickly and to write amazingly clean first drafts. Whether I’m in the mood to plot out every little thing before I start writing, or I’m feeling free and easy and want to write by the seat of my pants—STC works for me. I believe it can work for YOU, TOO!

Here’s some highlights on why Save the Cat is the best tool for writers: • It works for any kind of story you’re writing—be it screenplay, novel, memoir, or whatever • STC helps you craft stories that can compete with other entertainment choices available to consumers • It’s perfect for both Plotters (people who like to outline their novels) and Pantsers (people who like to “write-by-the-seat-of-their-pants”) • STC helps you create a story that resonates on an emotional, visceral level • You can outline a story in two hours! Or less. Or more…but two hours has been the average I’ve observed with most of my clients.

Isn’t all that freakin’ awesome! Stay tuned and learn about the STC method over the next few weeks.
